Performance of straw bale construction + sustainability for small firms

performance of straw bale construction rocky mountain

that’s a wrap on #aia25. RBS had a handful of roles to play and here’s how they benefit you:

  1. expertise + education on bio-based materials: we know, through in the field research & application, what works and what does not. this spring we tested moisture in several straw bale and straw clay buildings in the teton region. we documented repairs and maintenance performed, any pests, and moisture. the results were boring which is the best possible. through our vast knowledge of options, finishes, and best practices, we can guide you to select a practical and executable option for your client and project.

  2. President of AIA Idaho: advocacy for small firms’ values w/in AIA and our government are critical for small firm success. aia national and our state legislatures do not always know what it means to practice in a rural or semi-urban high cost market.

  3. 2030 Working group: advocating in two directions

    • for aia to provide more resources and guidance for small firms about reducing emissions and using better materials in our projects

    • for small firms to contribute to the bigger picture: you play a significant role by designing a substantial amount of square feet of built space. tracking your progress towards net zero and better materials helps everyone do a better job.
